Are you ready for some football? The St. Louis Rams are back in training camp. The rookies will hold their first workout Thursday morning. The Rams veterans won't be in camp for their first workout until Saturday. But there's one rookie who will be noticeably absent: overall first-round draft pick Sam Bradford is still not signed. His agents live in St. Louis so the deal could be done in the next day or two.

Dickey took a three-hitter into the ninth inning and Ike Davis hit a three-run homer, leading the Mets to a 4-0 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday that gave New York its first series victory in more than a month. Angel Pagan tripled and scored twice for the Mets, who took two of three from St. Louis to drop the Cardinals into second place in the NL Central, a half-game behind idle Cincinnati.

Albert Pujols had the 20-inning marathon that the St. Louis Cardinals played against the Mets earlier this year in the back of his mind when he stepped to the plate in a tie game Wednesday night. It was already the 13th inning, and with a day game on the horizon, the big slugger wanted nothing more than to drive in a run and head for bed.

Felipe Lopez was simply trying to get on base when he hit his go-ahead homer. Lopez hit a tie-breaking solo shot in the 11th inning to help the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Chicago Cubs 4-3 on Sunday night and avoid a weekend sweep.

The new St. Louis Rams mascot now has a name, Rampage. Rams fans chose the new name by voting in an online contest. The top 5 names were Archie, Ramsey, Rampage, Rammer, and Rush. More than a thousand names were submitted for the new mascot. The person who submitted the winning name will receive a suite at a Rams game for his or herself and 15 friends, a Rams jersey, and a $200 gift card to the Rams online store.

The St. Louis Rams have intensified discussions in hopes of signing free agent Terrell Owens, according to sources close to the player and team.
The Rams asked Owens through his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, if he would consider a serious contract proposal, even though they are not considered a playoff contender. Rosenhaus told the team Owens would definitely consider it, sources said.

Former St. Louis Cardinals manager Whitey Herzog has been inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. The 78-year-old Herzog , who played eight seasons as a firstbaseman and outfielder before moving to the front office, is just the 19th major league manager to be inducted. Herzog managed for 18 seasons, 11 with the Cardinals afterstints in Texas, California and Kansas City.

The winning name, and the prize-winner whose suggestion is chosen, will be announced 11 a.m. Monday at the St. Louis Zoo's south entrance.

Famed St. Louis Cardinals manager, Whitey Herzog, will be inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., on July 25. Herzog, 78, is best known for his managerial stints with the Royals in the 1970s and the Cardinals in the '80s, winning the 1982 World Series along with also winning NL pennants in '85 and '87. He style was known as "Whiteyball", which focused on speed and defense.

Rookies Tyler Colvin and Starlin Castro homered Saturday, completing a successful week at the top of Chicago's order and helping the Cubs to a 6-5 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals finally scored after being shut out the previous two days but still followed an eight-game winning streak with their third straight loss.

Albert Pujols is scheduled to make his first appearance Monday night on "The Late Show with David Letterman." He'll participate in an outdoor batting demonstration. The Cardinals are off Monday before playing three games against the Mets in New York.

Tightlipped and terse, Tony La Russa was a big change from Whitey Herzog when he joined the St. Louis Cardinals in 1996. In his first 14 seasons, La Russa produced eight postseason appearances and a World Series championship. He's the franchise's winningest manager. Loosened up some, too.
