Even years after his retirement, an appearance by Stan Musial still triggers a standing ovation. "Not only is he one of the greatest baseball players to ever play the game he's a great humanitarian and someone who has given back to the community time and time again," said Ron Watermon, St. Louis Cardinals. That's why the Cardinals are now asking fans to lobby the White House for Musial to receive the highest civilian award in the country, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

PASADENA -- Former major league pitcher Jose Lima has died at the age of 37 of an apparent massive heart attack at his home in Pasadena, the Los Angeles Dodgers said Sunday.

Felipe Lopez was so focused on the game-deciding at-bat, he failed to notice the Angels had a five-man infield. Lopez beat the alignment when he lofted a bases-loaded single in the 10th inning well past the two remaining outfielders who were drawn in, giving the St. Louis Cardinals a 6-5 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday.

Texas Tops Missouri, 6-4, For 27th Win In 28 Games

Cameron Rupp scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch and Texas won for the 27th time in 28 games after scoring twice without a hit in the ninth inning of a 6-4 victory against Missouri on Saturday. Rupp opened the ninth by reaching on an error, and pinch-hitter Russell Moldenhauer walked. After a sacrifice bunt, Rupp scored on Tyler Clark's wild pitch. Moldenhauer later came home on a sacrifice fly. Both runs were unearned.

Cardinal's Penny Hits Grand Slam, Injures Back In Cardinals 9-5 Win Over Angels

LOUIS (AP) — Cardinals right-hander Brad Penny hit a grand slam in the third inning, apparently injuring his back on the swing, before St. Louis' bullpen took over in a 9-5 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night. Penny lasted only a few warmup pitches in the top of the fourth inning before leaving.

Cardinals Place Brad Penny On DL, Call Up Walters

Cardinals pitcher Brad Penny was put on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a strain his upper back, although the team believes it's a minor injury. St. Louis General Manager John Mozeliak said Penny received an injection and could pitch again in as soon as 10 days, meaning he'd miss one turn in the rotation.

The U.S. Chess championships are taking place in St. Louis. To celebrate, the Central West end corner of Maryland Avenue and Euclid was shut down for a display of human chess. A pair of grandmasters of the game were pitted against each other, current U.S champion Hikaru Nakamura against Ben Finegold.

Adam Wainwright dominated after a shaky start and Matt Holliday got his first two RBIs in four games batting third in the St. Louis Cardinals' 4-2 victory over the Florida Marlins on Thursday. Hanley Ramirez had an RBI single and a walk for the Marlins, who lost for only the second time in eight games. Nate Robertson (4-4)faced an all-right-handed lineup and gave up four runs in six innings to take the loss.

The Cardinals have planned to develop an area of shops, condos and offices in the area just outside of Busch Stadium since the new ballpark opened in 2006. The sour economy is among the factors that has slowed the project.
