Credit Card Debt Drops 13 Percent

NEW YORK (AP) — The amount consumers owed on their credit cards in this year's second quarter dropped to the lowest level in more than eight years as cardholders continued to pay off balances in the uncertain economy.

An hour long police pursuit through northwest St. Louis County ended when the suspect crashed into a wall in a construction zone on I-70 near St. Charles Rock Road. The pursuit hit I-70, I-370, and I-270.

Hundreds of Dogs Ready to Be Adopted Stray Rescue

400 Dogs at the Liberation Revolution Festival

Hundreds of dogs at Stray Rescue need a new home and they're ready to be adopted! They are being "liberated" with a festival. Stray Rescue is holding a mega adoption event on Saturday, August 28 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Companion Animal Center. It's located at 2320 Pine. More than 400 dogs are available. The adoption fees are also going to be cut in half - $150 for dogs and $100 for cats, including spay/neuter, vaccinations and microchipping.

School Starts Late for Some Illinois Students

Construction delays are to blame for an Illinois school district not starting classes until after Labor Day. The old high school in Waterloo is being renovated to become the town's new junior high, but the work isn't going to be complete until September 7th.

Another massive food recall, this one causing Wal-Mart to yank many Marketside Grab-and-Go deli sandwiches off the shelves. Tests show beef and pork inside may be tainted with Listeria. Tony Cafazza manages the Straub's grocery store in Town and Country says, "I'm always asked, 'are your eggs okay?'" Meanwhile, FOX 2's Charles Jaco took a look at the industrialized state of our food chain, and just how worried we should be.

Bottle Caps For Vets

It's been shades of the old scrap metal drives during World War II in St. Louis recently. MillerCoors Brewing's bottle-caps-for-vets campaign, has rolled into town. Four decked out Hummers have been criss-crossing the USA; their drivers collecting bottle caps and pull tabs from Miller High Life and High Life Light bottles and cans. MillerCoors is giving 10-cents for every cap and tab collected, to the IAVA: the Iraq-Afghanistan Veterans of America.

One In Custody in Gerald Manhunt

Deputies in Franklin County have one man in custody, but are still looking for a second after two gun toting robbers burst into a retired woman's home and robbed her Tuesday morning in nearby Gasconade County. Deputies say the pair kicked in the Owensville woman's door, left, then returned, stealing a number of items. She wasn't hurt, and got a description of the car. That led to the chase.

Jewelry Store Heist in St. Charles May Be One In a String

Jewelry stores along historic Main Street in St. Charles are being hit by thieves. Hundreds of thousands of dollars of specialty jewelry has been stolen in two break ins-the latest just days ago. Investigators think the break-ins could definitely be related because of the methods of operation: both have basically been smash and grabs.

Major Meth Bust Near De Soto

Jennings Police Chief Retires Amid Investigation

Less than a week after an exclusive Fox 2 report on a state investigation into missing money at the Jennings Police Department, the chief announces he's retiring. Chief Robert Orr says he's stepping down because he is about to be 65 years old, and he's been a police officer for 40 years. The retirement is not related to the investigation.

380,000 Pounds Of Deli Meat Recalled

Zemco Industries in Buffalo, New York, has recalled approximately 380,000 pounds of deli meat that may be contaminated with bacteria that can cause a potentially fatal disease, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Monday. The products were distributed to Wal-Marts nationwide, according to the USDA's website. The meats may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, which was discovered in a retail sample collected by inspectors in Georgia. The USDA has received no reports of illnesses associated with the meats.

Three Homes Go Up In Flames; Fires Called Suspicious

St. Louis City firefighters were busy early Tuesday morning dousing the flames of three different house fires. All three homes are located next to each other in the 4400 block of St. Ferdinand. The middle house was vacant and caught fire first. When fire crews arrived the home was engulfed in flames. Neighbors tried to retrieve a garden hose to protect their home but the heat was too intense.

Police Respond To Standoff In Wildwood

St. Louis County Police are on the scene of a standoff with a 57-year-old man in Wildwood, Missouri. Police say the man got into an argument with his wife, who then left the home on Westglen Farm Drive, off Manchester. The standoff started around 5:30pm. Police believe the man is inside the home alone and armed. We have a crew on the scene now. Stay tuned to FOX 2 and KPLR 11 for more information on this developing story.
